I went to volunteer orientation yesterday at Ben Taub Gen. Hospital. I haven't been to Ben Taub in a while but thankfully I was able to find my way to the conference room. There were a lot of people there. Even the Volunteer Coordinator was surprised by how many of us there were. I was just glad that my Japanese class was cancelled yesterday so that I didn't miss a class.
Orientation took a little over an hour. The Volunteer Coordinator go there right at 6 and had to set up the sign in sheet and papers that we needed so we were a little late in starting. The orientation covered the do's and don'ts of volunteering, about some of the clinics, on some of the emergency procedures there are and that we could get fired for having bad work ethics. I still need to get my TB test done and then I can start volunteering.
I will contact Ms. Gooden and see which places need volunteers - and are close to the school or my home.
